There are many emulations of legendary synths on the market. If you are interested in vintage synthesizers, but you don’t have the money to finance them, you have to work with plugins. I was sitting pretty and was very content and then BOOM. Arturia V Collection 8 is a big update of its vintage synth collection featuring 4 new plugins (OB-Xa, Vocoder V, Emulator II V, Jun-6V), updates & more. I use Logic Pro X and the core sounds are incredible, but when I added an Arturia KeyLab 61 mkii (also open box big discount), it took things to another level with the basic Analog Lab suite and the ability to use the controller for just playing, for recording, etc. So I jumped into the whole soft-synth VST thing and I am blown away. Those sales gave me a lot of funds to dive into software and midi - where dollars go a long, long way! (I didn't appreciate that at the start of the journey - despite some of you pointing that out.) Mind you, I bought all but one used, steeply discounted, and eventually sold the Prophet, Moog, and OP-1. They’ve bumped the price up a bit to €599 which will not please many people but it’s still fantastic value for money for these brilliantly crafted software synthesizers.It started with a Prophet Rev2, then a Juno 106, then a Moog, an OP-1, and most recently a Korg MinilogueXD. Preset loading is now twice as fast and you’ll find some useful microtuning on the Clavinet V, Stage-73 V, Piano V, and DX7 V. Arturia has also been working on the GUIs and vibe of the interface to make them look smashing on 4K monitors. Update 8.2 brings the low awaited support for Apple M1 processors.
Analog Lab has also had a bit of a refit and they’ve crafted a whole load of extra presets purely for V Collection users. In fact the interface to all the keyboards has been tweaked, the browser improved and they’ve added Macro controls for easy tweaking.
That’s quite a bargain even if you don’t use them all. If that sounds a little high, just do the math and consider that each instrument in the bundle costs less than 22. There have been major updates to the Stage 73 V and Jup-8 V reworking the modelling and improving the interface. V Collection 7 furnishes all of Arturia’s classic emulations14 synths and 9 other keyboards, plus Analog Lab 4in a bundle that retails for 499.
